Apache Junction to Calgary Jan. 31st - Feb. 5th

Jan 31st

We were off to the Mesa Swap Meet in the morning, picking up last minute things.
We met John,Lynda,Gerald and Bev at Filly's outdoor patio for lunch and drinks. We listened to a good country band while people danced in the warm 80 Deg F. temperature.
We went back to the Lost Dutchman State Park with the Brook's and the Fernquist's. A beautiful park at the bottom of the Superstition Mountains. We stayed until sunset and said goodbye to our friends.

Feb. 1st

Sunny 78 Deg. F.,we packed up our 5th wheel and did laundry.
Harry and Thea invited us over to watch the Super Bowl and have dinner. Although the Arizona Cardinals lost 27-23 to the Pittsburgh Steelers it was a fun afternoon and evening. The Crosby's are great people.

Feb. 2nd

Homeward Bound at 7 am. We drove past Quartzsite heading into Nevada. We had a small detour in Las Vegas due to construction.
We arrived at the Oasis Casino and RV Park,Mesquite, Nevada at 4:30 pm -- 22 Deg. C.
We had dinner at the Casino and played a few slot machines(playing with $10.00 and winning $42.00)

Feb. 3rd

Up early 4:45 am. Ralph winterized the 5th wheel. We were on the road by 7am and leaving Nevada. We drove the length of Utah on I-15 passing through Salt Lake City with no problems.
The roads were bare with snow covering the mountains and fields. The temperatures were as high as 8 Deg. C.
We stayed at the Flying J truck stop in McCammon just inside the Idaho border at 4:15pm. We had the buffet dinner and went to bed early.

Feb. 4th

Very cold -13 Deg. C. with lots of frost. We left at 6:30 am before daylight. We drove the 200 miles through Idaho into Montana without having any trouble going through the mountain passes.
By the time we arrived in Great Falls, Montana at 2pm it was 14 Deg. C and very windy. We decided to keep driving.
We stopped at duty free and went through the US/Canada border crossing at 4:30 pm. No problem. Two dozen deer were in the field beside the highway just outside of Lethbridge.
We arrived in Calgary at 8:30pm 9 Deg. C. We parked our truck and 5th wheel on the street in front of our friends (the Motters). Jean had homemade soup and cheese bread waiting for us.
Very tired after 33 hours of driving in 3 days,we were happy to be home.

Feb. 5th

12 Deg. C sunny. We were fortunate to have spring-like conditions driving back from Arizona. We got our 5th wheel parked on our cement pad. Thanks Rob and Hussein for clearing the ice and packed snow off our cement pad and putting sand and gravel on the back alley (it was like a skating rink before their good work).
After cleaning things out of the 5th wheel we went over to Derek and Carol's. Liam was very excited to see us. Annika (10 months) is suffering serious side affects from the steroid medication to control the seizures. Home care nurses inject her every second day and take her vital signs. Some side effects are puffiness, hunger and irritiability. It is sad to see her in pain. She cries most of the time. Derek and Carol are not getting much sleep. The Good News-- the Infantile Spasms have stopped for over a week but she has to stay on the medication for another 10 weeks. I am going to the Childrens Hospital with Carol on Monday the 9th. Annika will have another EEG (brain scan).
We are having Liam over for sleepovers every week and helping when and wherever needed. Derek and Carol are thankful we are home. Please keep Annika and our family in your thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time. Thank you for your continued support. We will try to keep you updated.
