Nov. 26th
Lafayette, LA to East Central Texas
One hour into our drive west on I-10 near Lake Charles LA we spent 3 hours in traffic to go 11 miles--apparently a big rig hit a construction barricade and overturned, spilling it's load on the highway. I-10 was closed and we were re-routed through Lake Charles. We crossed into Texas and drove through downtown Houston-lots of overpasses and 8 lanes of traffic each way. We finally arrived at the Columbus KOA 80 miles west of Houston. The campground is in a field of pecan and oak trees.

Happy American Thanksgiving
We drove 7 miles into the small town of Columbus to get groceries. H-E-B Grocery-- all turkeys of any size were $5.00.
We were invited to the campground's Thanksgiving dinner at 1 pm--turkey with all the trimmings and the best key lime pie we have ever tasted. After dinner we played board games with some of the other campers.
A hot 85 Deg. F/30 Deg. C. with high humidity.

Black Friday-the busiest USA shopping day!
We traveled west on I-1o to San Antonio and south on I-77 to Lake Corpus Christi. Our campsite overlooks the lake. There are alot of cacti and trees. Another hot humid day. Sat around and enjoyed it.

South Texas
We had a pancake and sausage breakfast-- put on by the campground.
We drove 35 miles south to the oil rich coastal city of Corpus Christi--oil refineries everywhere. We walked along the sea wall next to the beach and the Gulf of Mexico.
The seafood lunch at Landry's floating restaurant was very good. The restaurant faced the marina and the Gulf of Mexico. The pelicans are huge. 83 Deg. F hot and humid.
Nov. 30th
We traveled down the Rio Grande Valley(once part of Mexico). As we traveled south we saw lots of sugar cane and cotton (already picked)fields and huge cattle ranches. The King Ranch is apparently the world's largest ranch with over 1 million acres.Lots of rich Texans in this area.
We crossed over the long Port Isabella bridge to beautiful South Padre Island. It is a long narrow island (1/2 mile wide surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico and Laguna Madre Bay).It is a resort island with lots of palm trees, sandy beaches, large hotels and shops.
Our KOA campsite is very nice with a view of the bay and the bridge. We toured the 11 miles of raodways on the island. We watched people fishing at the pier and went to the beach.
We had fresh jumbo gulf shrimp for dinner after watching a beautiful sunset.
Pleasant 75 deg.F today

Hi Ralph and Marie,
I am just catching up on your blog and my emails.
Sounds like you guys are still having a good time. We really enjoyed having you visit, and can't wait until you can come back for Mardi Gras. We had a good time in Branson. The weather was cold, and we saw snow flakes on Sat. night. Snow predicted for Sun. night. Got out of there just in time. How was the food at Randols? We never eat there, but it is a hot place for tourist. Need to catch up on some things around here. Stay in touch. John and Sherryl
